The historic signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) between the Government of the Republic of Sudan (GoS) and the Sudanese People's Liberation Movement (SPLA/M) in 2005, was the beginning of ending the North-South civil war in the Sudan that has persevered for 21 years. It created a new political paradigm for Sudan, for it empowered the leaders and people of southern Sudan to embark upon a six-year interim period of self-government.

Although the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) has been a cause for joyful celebration, it is important to recognize that the struggles of Sudanese people, especially of Sudanese women and girls are not over. The challenges ahead are immense and numerous issues, such as displacement, poverty as well as suffering and trauma caused by the atrocities of war must be addressed.

Empowerment of Women: Why do women need to be involved specifically in the affairs of their society and country?

* Women are half of the human species. They constitute half of the world's population.

* Psychologically, women are more ethical than men. They have more of the testerone hormone, which is an aggressive hormone found mostly in men.

* To have an equal balance in the Legislatures, especially in making laws that are favourable to all in society.

* For the allocation of money, women need to be on the table when resources are distributed. Men have one connection in their brain from left and right, so they are very single minded and focus. Women have many connections, so they can deal with several things at the same time. They are community builders. They use more words, develop language faster.

* Women and men are made to be partners. Heart structures and lungs are different. For instance at the same age, baby girls can tell the difference between men and women, but baby boys cannot.

* Women are the peace makers. Brain studies affirm it. Men view conflict as aggressive and like to fight to win. They like to come out on top. Women look at conflict differently. For them it is not about winning or losing. It is how you negotiate a solution by compromising. Women have moral obligation to help create a better society.

Why do we need Women in Politics?

Universally, women are under represented and as a result their voices are not heard. Politics is about every day life. It is about survival and people's lives. Politics deals with daily issues. Women bring unique life experiences in education, health care, child...
