PositionFEMNET organizes program for men against gender-based violence

To commemorate the Sixteen Days FEMNET, in partnership with UNIFEM, GTZ and Ford Foundation, initiated the men against gender based violence programme which aims at mobilising African men to support the gender equality movement, specifically focusing on their interest in the eradication of gender based violence. FEMNET organised a regional consultation in Nairobi, involving men from Kenya, Malawi, Namibia and South Africa. Men from the four participating countries spent two days talking to each other, analysing, discussing and debating the role of men in perpetrating and eliminating violence on women and in creating new masculine ideologies, gender equality and a culture of peace.

The participants, committee themselves to go back to their countries and organisations to mobilise, educate, sensitise and involve men in activities to combat violence against women.
