What is fundamentalism? According to the WHRnet web resource, it is "the use of religion, ethnicity, and culture to mobilize and gain political power in a society". Fundamentalism exists in diverse forms, all intertwined in multifaceted ways and often functioning as mutually reinforcing and transnational movements. There are many forms of fundamentalism, which are interlinked in multifaceted ways and frequently operate as mutually reinforcing, transnational movements. When an extremist politico-religious movement gains power, for example, it prompts other communities--locally and nationally--also to manipulate religious and ethnic identities for political purposes. This resource is a joint project of the Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID), Rights and Democracy, and Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML).
