To adequately acknowledge the people who have played a role in the development of this book 'Gender Dimensions of the PRS Process and Its Relationship to the National Budget: the Experiences of Egypt, Mali, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia' would be impossible. It builds on the experiences of and contributions from numerous individuals from a wide variety of countries with equally wide and varied knowledge and expertise. It has involved innumerable hours of hard work and I deeply appreciate all who have contributed their time, vision and expertise.

This volume is a product of a year-long consolidated research into the principal gender dimensions of the PRS process and its relationship to the national budget under FEMNET's advocacy programme aimed at providing FEMNET with a sound basis for engagement with national Ministries of Finance and Planning on macro-economic modeling; providing sufficient data and analysis to interest economists who are involved in macro-economic modeling to pursue the findings of the research through their work with national Ministries of Finance and Planning; and providing a basis for developing specific and targeted gender analysis and mainstreaming training aimed at the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

Resources are not developed in a vacuum and this research has been influenced by the perceived need of a gender analysis of existing data relating to key socio-economic indicators for the sectors covered by the researched country's PRS paper (paying attention to income and regional differentials and determining links, where possible, with the country's macro-economic framework). In particular, mention should be made of FEMNET's earlier and related work on the subject whose main objective was to strengthen the advocacy capacity of civil society to influence...
